CIRU

The Clinical Informatics Research Unit (CIRU) operates as an applied research and enterprise unit within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. The Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health

The Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health has been set up to support cross-commonwealth collaboration and coordination of digital/eHealth work to support the benefits that digital platforms bring in delivering health systems. The hub is currently providing placements for 7 clinically trained fellows in digital health from Sri Lanka. The fellows are currently working within the Clinical Informatics Research Unit to learn about the use of digital technologies and approaches within the NHS. This will allow them to return to Sri Lanka with new skills and experiences before commencing medical consultant posts win hospitals, clinics, and the Ministry of Health.

Digital Learning- University of Southampton

The Digital Learning team offer educational and technical expertise that supports the University’s ambition to provide all students with an engaging and innovative high quality learning experiences. The team are working with colleagues in Medicine, Health Sciences, and staff at the Southampton General Hospital Emergency Department to capture a Major Trauma Resuscitation Simulation in 360-degree video. This can be viewed in a virtual reality headset, placing the viewer at the centre of the action. This pilot project aims to provide ground-breaking learning resources for Emergency Medicine students (and beyond) allowing them to experience complex and infrequent events as realistically as possible.

“Quantum Perspectives in a New Era of Research”

UOL’s session will focus on embracing new ways of cross-disciplinary working and communal research approaches which recognises the creative potential of individuals, shared knowledge and understanding. The talk will present the results of the three year EFACCT study, conducted at NHS research sites across the UK and demonstrate the outcomes, including the TRACAT tool which maps trial complexity and operates as a workforce planning and capacity tool.
